Hey everyone, as you all know there was a horrible shooting in a high school in Florida this month and just the thought of it brings me sadness. But through that sadness there must come strength, strength to do something about it. I had the opportunity to team up with an amazing girl named Noel. You all have to go and check out her blog. New Year. New You.

It’s January, so it’s that time of year when you get to have a fresh clean slate and start something new.

This year I’m on a journey to become a better me. A healthier me. A NEW me.

I know what it feels like, feeling stuck, sometimes sluggish and not liking the way clothes fits you. So why not finally do something about it?!

Remember it’s not about the number on the scale, it’s about feeling stronger, confident and being a healthier person.

I decided that every week from now on I’ll be posting either a food recipe, detox recipe, workouts or anything that I’m doing that’s health-related. So if you want to follow me on this journey that would be awesome and see if maybe some of the things I do and eat could maybe help you on your own journey as well.

In order to give you an idea of what I’m going for I answered some questions that a few of you might have for me. Of course, if you have more feel free to ask me in the comments below.

  • So what is my goal weight?

The truth is I don’t have one.

The number on the scale doesn’t define who I am as a person it’s just a number.

  • Why are you doing this?

I’m doing this because I want to live a better health style, I want to feel good about myself and what I’m putting into my body.

  • How do you feel about cheat days?

Cheat days are a yes and no for me. I like them because of course, you get to eat whatever you want. On the downside, I don’t like them because you tend to eat so bad on those days that it sort-of defeats the purpose of trying to eat healthier.

I don’t want to eat healthier just to look good for a certain amount of time. I want to change my overall eating habits for good. This isn’t just a temporary thing for me.

  • How are you going to deal with cravings?

I’m Hispanic, so let me tell you that I love to eat. My favorite meal is tacos. I absolutely love chocolate. And my favorite snacks are chips. All those things are not healthy whatsoever but since they are my favorite things to eat of course I’m going to crave them. Does that mean that I’m going to stop eating them? Absolutely not. If I want tacos one day I’m gonna eat them, if I’m craving chips you bet I’m going to have some. I’m not going to completely stop eating the things that I enjoy to eat just because I want to eat healthier. What I will do is control my portions size. Eat the things that I know aren’t the healthiest in moderation.

  • Is this a diet?

Nope. Not at all. I don’t do diets. Diets restrict you from eating the things you enjoy. Most of the foods are, let’s be honest not the best tasting. That’s why I feel like a lot of people break them because it’s difficult to give up the things that you like to eat.

What I want to do is try more healthier food options and incorporate the ones that I like into my daily meal plans. So I can actually enjoy what I eat everyday.

If you decide that you do in fact want to change the way you’re eating and want to see how your progress is going something I recommend is NOT to weigh yourself everyday.

Weighing yourself every day at different times of the day just isn’t going to help you, as your weight can fluctuate up and causing you to get discourage and make you want to quit right then and there. So please stay away from the scale until it’s time.

Now, When you do weigh yourself and don’t notice a change or if you even gained some weight don’t get discouraged, you’re still losing inches, you’re still feeling more energetic, you’re eating healthier and you’re still not giving up!

There are other ways to measure your progress other than using a scale.

1) Body Measurements. Using a tape measurer, you can take your body measurements every Monday, which is also the day that I prefer to weigh myself since it’s the beginning of the week, and I can keep track of my progress.

2) Photos. Sometimes, what the scale doesn’t tell you a photo will, you can still see progress by taking weekly progress photos. All you have to do is take a photo of yourself using your phone from the front, both sides, and the back. (Standing in front of a mirror can help)

If you’re doing things right nutritionally and fitness wise, you should see some progress in your photos.

3) Try on clothes that you normally wear. Does it fit looser or tighter?

If it’s looser you’re on the right track.

4) finally, Ask yourself, ‘How do I feel?’ on your Weigh In Date (Monday).

If you feel better then you know that you’re doing the right things for your body, and you should care less about what some number on the scale says.

Overall, If you look and feel better, that’s all that really matters. Everything else shouldn’t define you or your journey. Remember, don’t be hard on yourself, instead be happy and proud of yourself that you’re taking the steps to live a better healthier lifestyle.

Celebrating Christmas in a LDR

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Unfortunately for us, we’re in a long distance relationship so it’s harder during the holidays since we can’t physically spend it together. But we try to look on the bright side and make the best of what we have. Luckily we live in a time where we can use technology to our advantage.

The smallest things are very important, whether it’s sending a Christmas card, opening Christmas gift while FaceTiming or watching a movie while Skyping. Making any type of effort in seeing each other makes all the difference. I know it gets hard and sad at times but it’s best to look on the bright side of things. Why dwell on the things you can’t change. Instead try to keep yourself occupied, spend some time with your friends and family, enjoy those moments and cherish them. Appreciate the small things in life after all that’s what Christmas is about.

Although we may not get to spend Christmas together this year, we have still hope that next year we will. So if you’re also in a long distance relationship don’t let it get to you, your day will come one day just don’t give up because the best things in life are worth fighting for.

Just one more week until Christmas! I can’t believe it’s almost here, there’s so much to do and not much time left but no matter how busy I get, I always make time for some Christmas themed movies. During this time of year I look forward to watching all my favorite Christmas movies, just watching them gets me in the Christmassy mood. I usually like to watch them while I’m gift wrapping and baking.

Motivational Monday #10

Keeping your Christmas cheer during this time of the year.

Oh, the holidays. The time for joy, cheer, family and happiness. Although it’s a wonderful and beautiful holiday sometimes it can get a bit stressful and overwhelming to find the perfect gift.

During this time of year, my memories consist of always going to the mall with my mom, waiting in long lines, decorating the tree and helping with the gift wrapping and cooking. So I understand how busy people can and lose track of what Christmas is really about.

In order for me to keep my cool and be more joyful this year, I made a short list of some things that you can do to look past the stress and focus more on being cheerful and feeling the Christmas spirit.

1. SHOPPING! Now I’ll admit this is something I do enjoy doing no matter what the occasion is but hey, Christmas only comes around once a year and seeing the look on your loved one with something that you hand-picked for them is priceless.

I know times are tough so sometimes it’s hard to give presents but you don’t always need to go out and buy things. You can always make your gifts if anything they have more meaning. It’s the thought that counts not the price.

2.  Prayer and Reading the Bible – Take some time out of your day to pray and to read the Word. If you’re looking for a bible study, I suggest checking out Proverb 31 Online Bible Studies. All you need is your book.

3.  Listen to some Christmas music!  I love Christmas music, it gets me in such a happy mood. I play it when I’m cleaning, driving, wrapping gifts, cooking and just having it play in the house as background noise gives out a nice ambiance.

4.  DECORATE – Decorating and getting into the spirit of Christmas, making your home look and feel alive can be such a mood booster.

5.  BAKING – This is one of my favorite things to do especially during the holidays. Not only does it make your home smell amazing, you get a delicious homemade treat to enjoy at the end.

Just remember that Christmas is more than just about gifts, decorating and materialistic things. although it’s nice to receive and do those things sometimes we tend to forget about what Christmas really is. Spending time with loved ones and appreciating the true meaning of Christmas is what’s it’s all about.

Since my boyfriend came to visit me this week I decided to make another small motivational playlist. This time the music style will be focused on love songs since I’m in a lovey-dovey mood.

Motivational #8

Finally, it’s Thanksgiving week! The occasion when you get to spend time with your loved ones, reminisce about life, eat great food and to be thankful for what you have.

I know that the holidays seasons are near and there’s a lot of things going through peoples lives and I get it, life can get busy.

I’ll admit sometimes it’s hard to be thankful and remember to appreciate what we have, instead we tend to look on the negativity that we go through from day to day because it’s what see and feel in the moment. But just remember that there is always something to be grateful for. It may not be the biggest thing that’s on your mind but there’s always something, Being alive for one.

It’s always nice to have some time to yourself where all you do is just think of all the good things you have, how fortunate you are, how good you have it, to appreciate and be grateful for what you have. Because life’s too short to take things for granted and you don’t want to realize it once it’s too late.
